Treasured family recipes and dishes by chefs

Assumption High School Batch 1998 has released “Simple, Sweet, Savory,” a commemorative cookbook meant to celebrate the batch’s silver anniversary.
“Simple, Sweet, Savory” offers a rich tapestry of flavors, featuring dishes from alumni and renowned chefs including Gilbert Pangilinan of the Japanese restaurant Kai, J. Gamboa of Azuthai and El Cirkulo, Robby Goco of Cyma, Ginny Roces of Tilde Bakery, Raymond Yaptinchay and Jay Tugas of Spoon & Pork L.A., and Miko Aspiras of Gelato by Chef Miko. The easy-to-follow recipes they have graciously shared are as delicious as they are impressive.

Assumption silver jubilarians contributed treasured family recipes while other Assumption alumni and friends like actress Iza Calzado and Juana Manahan-Yupangco of “Mesa Ni Misis” shared special dishes as well.

There’s a little bit of everything—from starters, snacks and sides to rice, starch and noodles. There are poultry, meat and seafood recipes and cakes, pies and sweets. Make Marielle Santos Po’s Chorizo Puffs, Hannah Sia’s Caviar Pie and Judy Dizon Garcia’s Sticky Bacon Jam and Popcorn Chicken. Isha Andaya-Vallés, who served as the book’s editor and designer, shared her recipe for Salmon Crudo. Try Katz Regala Odulio’s Regala Chicken Galantina, Valerie De Guzman Beggs’ Oven-Baked Miso Chicken, Monique Albert-Lopez’s Easy Korean Beef Stew and so much more. Among the many desserts featured in the book are Chrissie Ragaza-Rosales’ Classic Moist Chocolate Cake, Maria Cielo Dizon Reyes’ Calamansi Meringue Pie, Ana De Villa Singson’s Mango Scramble Pie and Ginny Roces De Guzman’s Crepes.
“Simple, Sweet, Savory” also offers a lifestyle guide on hosting at home, presented by Sanj Licaros of The Daily Butlery and Grace Baja of Grace Home.

Publisher and project lead Chris Yam Daez wrote in the book’s foreword, “Each thoughtfully curated dish brings joy to your table and positively impacts the lives of others. As we reminisce about our school days and mark our 25th high school homecoming, we’re reminded of compassion, empathy and giving back. With pride, we dedicate proceeds from this cookbook to support the Assumption community, continuing our alma mater’s legacy of kindness and generosity.
“Simple, Sweet, Savory” is more than just a cookbook—it’s a gift of flavor and love.
